🎨 5 Free Color Palette Tools to Try This Weekend!

ree

Looking to create fresh color palettes from your photos or artwork? These free websites let you upload an image and instantly generate beautiful swatches - with hex codes included!

Here’s a quick list, followed by what makes each one special:

Quick List:

  • Coolors

  • Canva Color Palette Generator

  • Adobe Color

  • Palette Generator

  • Color Hunt

1. Coolors Coolors is fast, free, and fun. Upload an image and it instantly pulls a 5-color palette. You can even shuffle through options or adjust the selection by dragging the bubbles on the image to the colors you want. You can also increase or decrease the number of colors in the palette.

When you're done, you can download the result as an image or a PDF (along with many other sharing options). This is a great tool if you're building palettes for illustrations or design work, plus it's fun and free! 😊 If you like this "Happy Zinnia" palette I created from my garden, you can snag it here. 🌸

If you're already using Canva, why not give this one a whirl? Upload a photo, and it spits out 4 colors pulled from the image, each labeled with hex codes. You can then copy and paste the hex codes to create your own custom palette.  I really like the colors it chose and the fun names it generated! (But if you don't like it, there's no option to customize the colors that it's pulling from the image. 🙁 ) Here's what Canva created for me:

3. Adobe Color  Adobe’s tool is a little more advanced. 🤩 It generates 5 colors and you can tweak the mood of your palette (like Colorful, Muted, or Bright). It’s perfect for more refined work or when you’re building a color library.

You can even build gradients! This is pretty fun to play around with! ⭐️ Bonus: you can save the palettes directly to your Adobe library, so you can access them when using Adobe tools like Illustrator, Photoshop, Fresco, etc!

4. Palette Generator This one’s no-frills, but still handy. Upload your image, and it displays your palette with each hex code clearly shown. I could not find any option to download this palette, but you could screenshot it or just copy the hex codes to use in your projects.

Unlike the others, Color Hunt doesn’t use image uploads, but it features thousands of beautifully curated color palettes. You can browse by style (like Pastel, Vintage, or Warm), copy hex codes instantly, and save your favorites for later. It's perfect if you want instant inspiration or a palette that's ready to go!

These tools are great whether you want to extract colors from a reference image or browse ready-made palettes!

Try a few and let me know which is your favorite! I’ll be sharing some of my go-to palettes in an upcoming post. 💛

Happy weekend!
